Renee Liang
Renee Liang is an award-winning poet, playwright, paediatrician, medical researcher, fiction writer and second-generation Chinese Kiwi. Renee has collaborated on visual arts works, film, opera and music, produced and directed theatre works, worked as a dramaturge, taught creative writing and organized community-based arts initiatives. She organises community arts events such as New Kiwi Women Write, a writing workshop series for migrant women. She contributes to The Big Idea website which links NZ's arts community. Renee has written, produced and toured seven plays.
Renee was named a Sir Peter Blake Emerging Leader in 2010 for her activities in arts, medicine and science, and was appointed a Member of the NZ Order of Merit for services to the arts in 2018.
As part of the AAAH2018 Symposium @ Te Papa, Renee Liang was part of the Translations & Mutations panel, in conversation with Lynda Chanwai-Earle and Alice Canton, facilitated by Julie Zhu.
Renee also hosted a Customs & Rituals community focused closing session at the Seyip association as part of the AAAH2018 Progressive Morning Tea.
