Sarah Farrar

Sarah Farrar is Senior Curator Art at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. She is a curator of contemporary art and writer with a particular interest in the social reception of contemporary art, exhibition histories, cross-cultural curatorial practice and innovative approaches to collection exhibitions. Prior to her role at Te Papa, Sarah worked as an independent curator in the Netherlands and as a curator at City Gallery Wellington, where she worked with artist Yuk King Tan on her 2005 Overflow exhibition and book. She has curated exhibitions in New Zealand, the Netherlands, Brazil and China. Sarah is the lead curator on Te Papa’s Toi Art renewal project (2018) and she led the development of the museum’s previous collection exhibitions programme, Ngā Toi | Arts Te Papa (2013-17). She recently submitted her PhD in Curatorial Practice on the topic of ‘Curatorial Activism and Collection Exhibitions’ at Monash University, Melbourne.

As part of the AAAH2018 Symposium @ Te Papa, Sarah facilitated the Reimagining Paradise panel, which included Yuk King Tan, Vera Mey and Luise Fong.
