Opening Party at Te Papa

On Friday 21 September Te Papa hosted a pick-your-own path evening in the Toi Art galleries. Led by Aotearoa’s most exciting Asian artists, the AAAH2018 symposium opening party was a festive evening of conversation and entertainment that celebrated Aotearoa’s rich Asian arts and culture.

The evening included art installations such as a fortune cookie cart and a poetry producing mood machine from Auckland’s Satellites – a series of events, exhibitions, and encounters showcasing the city’s most exciting contemporary artists. There was also the opportunity to dig deep for a storytelling workshop, or pair up with a friend for a karaoke duet. The programming also included quick-fire discussions with leading artists and thinkers such as

-poet, playwright, and paediatrician Renee Liang
-performer and theatre-maker Alice Canton
-writer, editor, and director of Satellites, Rosabel Tan
-curators Vera Mey and Balamohan Shingade.

Te Papa and Massey University collaborated to bring you this free opening event for the symposium of the 2018 Asian Aotearoa Arts Huì.
